You have been doing some voluntary work to help your local community. However, you are now able to continue doing this work. Write a letter to the manager of the organization where you have been working. In your letter-

  • describe the work you have been doing

  • explain why you can no longer do this work

  • recommend another person who can do this work

Dear Sir,

I would like to inform that I would be discontinuing the volunteer work at Nature Canada.

My name is John Green, and I am a final year student at Western College, Ontario. Since two years, I have been involved with the cleaning department of the organization where I help maintain the parks and wildlife areas from Wednesday to Sunday every week.

Although the experience has been knowledgeable and fulfilling, I will not be able to continue the volunteer work as my bachelor’s degree will be over at the beginning of next month. I will then be moving to Vancouver for my higher studies.

My younger brother, James, is interested to volunteer. He is in high school, and his summer break starts next week. Not only has he visited the work sites often, but he is also well aware of how the duties are performed. With some training, he will prove to be an asset for the whole community.

I am grateful for the learning experience that the organization allowed me to have.

Yours faithfully,

John Green

I am John Green, a final year student at Western College. Since two years, I have been delivering food and relief items to Hastings on weekends, while during the weekdays I help restock shelves and organize food donations at the food bank.

My younger brother, James, is interested to volunteer. He is in high school, and his holiday break starts next week. Not only has he visited the work sites often, but he is also well aware of how the duties are performed. He is an excellent replacement especially because he would be available to work full-time around holidays when donations are higher.

I am grateful for the learning experience that the organization allowed me to have.

You are a student in a college and have not yet completed an important assignment for your course. You are writing a letter to your tutor. • explain why it is late

• apologise for the delay • request an extension.

Dear Mr Collins,

I am writing this letter to request postponement of the submission date for my thesis.

I, David Williams, am a student of 4th semester of Mass Communication. I am supposed to submit my presentation pertaining to my case study by 30th September. However, I would not be able to submit the same due to the date clashing with my elder sister’s wedding that is going to be held in Spain.

Although I completely understand the deadlines under which we have to finish the reports, my circumstances are inevitable. I have never been under a bad light in terms of my regularity in term exams or personality traits in class. Additionally, I stood first in the second semester for which I was awarded scholarship by the head of department.

Could you kindly allot another date after 30th September? I would be extremely grateful to you for understanding my situation, and I will make sure to submit my project before the date that is decided.

I look forward to a positive response.

Yours sincerely,

John Green
